You liked a video or image that you stumbled upon on the web while surfing so you right-clicked and saved it and used it on your webpage blog hoping to get a better ranking in search engines.
At first, you got some good feedback but after some, you suddenly see that instead of improving your ranking dropped not only that the post got removed from the search engines and you get a mail warning not to use other people’s content without permission.
That’s the power of copyright. And believe me when I say this letting you off with only a warning and only removing one page that a really light punishment. Some even have their domains banned permanently and some face the court.
But why so strict? And how does this benefit me?
Well, suppose you created an illustration that is unique and published it on social media without even including your logo or name. Now someone sees it and uses it on his website. At first, you would think it’s not a big issue. But later on, if you showed it to someone then they would that it was a copied content, not a unique one. The reason being they have already seen it on a site. Now that’s a big letdown.
And this doesn’t apply only to images but also video streams, audio streams, written content, etc. Because of such cases, many talented and creative content creators are struggling to publish their own creative content because of the fear of being stolen.
This is where copyright comes in. This is a system that allows creators to entitle their contents to themselves or a person of their choosing. This way not only will you be able to control the distribution of your content but also be at ease and proudly claim what rightfully belongs to you.
Over the years the copyright law has become more strict and is implements on various platforms. Even search engines give high priority to copyrights of the used contents when indexing or calculating ranking.
Now you are thinking what if it used contents that are free for use. Well, those would work but they are very commonly used thus they don’t have that uniqueness that makes them different from others. Thus even if get away with it they won’t be considered as unique or meaningful content. And that’s just half of it. Some free sites allow you to use their contents for free, but you have to mention them when using them if not you could face copyright issues as well.
But have no fear editing software and human imaginations have come a long way. Now you can just use the free content as a base and create something completely different for which no copyright issue will arise. Instead, you can claim that the content is yours if it’s used by someone without your consent. Because of such reasons nowadays every brand owners have a listing and claims of their site on popular directory pages as well as verified legally as well.
But what’s the point of doing this? Well not only will it make people think twice about trying to copy your content but also it will also improve your standing on the search engine platform as well. And besides, nowadays sites old or new like Petrion, Freepik, Streaming Plug, Upwork, and many more have used various unique and creative contents or images on their sites and are very protective of them. Also since they are unique they bring in more traffic for which their ranking over time has improved considerably.
Yeah, finding something new can be tiring and time-consuming. But you know what I think taking time and making something good out of it is better than rushing in and getting into trouble for it.
